Budmouth College Scholarship Scheme
Purpose
To provide an opportunity for year 12 and 13 students from the Budmouth College 6th Form to shadow and partner with established professionals working in the student’s area of interest and intended career destination.
Students are selected through a recruitment and selection process involving a formal application, shortlist process and interview.
Key targeted outcomes
The purpose of the scholarship scheme is to place students with University potential in direct contact with established professionals over a period of four to six continuous weeks. The shadowing and working experience in collaboration with a seasoned professional is intended to impart the benefits and challenges of the particular career in question.
Results and impact.
The project/scheme has so far been a resounding success. For the second year running all students completed their placement/scholarship, and ALL placement hosts were so impressed with the scheme that ALL of them offered to have another student on the same scheme if possible in following years.
Students are involved in a post scholarship presentation evening, bringing together placement hosts, staff, students, parents, potential future placement hosts, trustees from charitable trusts etc.
The event has so far been so successful that this year we have 10 placements supported by the Sir Samuel Mico Charitable Trust. This charitable foundation has been supporting the scholarship scheme right from the very beginning. More information can be seen on their website http://www.weymouthtowncharities.org.uk/scholarship.html
As a result, a Centre of Excellence for Industry Liaison was set up to progress the scheme further in association with other bodies.
